The INRF and You
The INRF hosts research in several ways. Researchers can get involved
by collaborating with existing research teams, sponsoring INRF projects
or starting a new INRF research project. The main technical liaison
for research issues is the INRF Research Coordinator. 949-824-0257, info@inrf.uci.edu.
Researchers who would like to know how their ideas can be developed
at the INRF, or integrated into current research efforts, should
contact the INRF Research Coordinator. The Research Coordinator
helps assess research goals and provides guidance as to how the
INRF can meet their needs. The Research Coordinator can also help
put researchers in contact with UCI faculty or Principal Investigators
who would be interested in their project.
To get involved with a collaborative effort, researchers should
browse the INRF web site for information about work being performed
on existing INRF research programs. If a particular group is doing
work which seems interesting or complimentary to a researcher's
interests, the Principal Investigator for that team, or the INRF
Research Coordinator, should be contacted about possible collaboration.
The INRF encourages collaboration, especially among research teams
from different backgrounds. Collaboration responsibilities and funding
issues are worked out among the collaborating partners.
Many industrial partners sponsor INRF faculty research programs.
Additionally, through a state-sponsored matching fund programs, private companies may
access world class UCI research at a relatively low cost. UCI faculty
can assist industrial partners prepare proposals for research projects
(e.g. SBIR). Many INRF projects result in commercially realizable
technology. Industries can also start and develop their own projects without collaboration from UCI Faculty.
Interested parties should contact the INRF Research Coordinator
to discuss research goals and find out if the facility can meet
their needs. If a researcher determines that the INRF will be useful
for work, the researcher can set up an account and begin using the
facility for private research. The technical details of private
research need not be disclosed to UCI faculty or staff.
Finally, certain simple operations may be performed as a service
to outside users. In this case, the user can specify what needs
to be done and INRF staff will perform the task. This is limited
to simple and definable tasks, such as surface profiling or simple etching.
